The Energy Right program is an energy efficiency initiative offered by TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) and participating local power companies to promote the wise and efficient use of electricity in homes and small businesses. The program offers a broad range of services, including an energy efficiency rating system for new home construction, which help residents and small business owners improve comfort while making the most of their energy dollars.

According to Energy Star, “If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an Energy Star qualified bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year, more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.” For this reason Flame’s E3 program will be leaving a free Energy Star approved compact fluorescent light bulb at every evaluation and offering to change each bulb in the home.

E3 and other energy audits are nothing new, but with the recent push to “go green” these audits are newly discovered. Many home owners may not be aware of the unique state their home will be in during an energy test. Last spring the German Environment Ministry unveiled a set of extremely ambitious proposals that aim to make Germany the most energy efficient country in the world. Other European countries (in accordance with new European Union laws) are following in Germany’s footsteps by pushing similar actions. Unfortunately the United States still consistently ranks poorly on energy efficiency. If every U.S. citizen made a few simple changes around their homes we would quickly catch up to the rest of the world.
