Bryant Evolution System

You may say that furnaces are just furnaces and air conditioner are just air conditioners, however you must have not encountered the Bryant Evolution System. It is “the heating and cooling system of the future.”  It could be described as “The Ritz Carlton” of heating and cooling, except there is no dress code for the Evolution System.

This whole system can include all elements needed such as furnace, air conditioner, thermostat, air purifier, humidifier etc…  This system allows you to control not only temperature, but also air quality, humidity, fan speed and ventilation.  It can also even detect when you air filter needs to be replaced.  No more having to remember how long ago you did that!  All this can be seen and controlled on the Evolution thermostat which also has a large, easy to read screen.  It also has 7-day programming!  Set your temperatures to exactly where there are useful everyday of the week, to ensure the most money and energy saved.

Not only is the Evolution thermostat energy efficient, but so are the Evolution units such as the furnaces.  For example, there are Evolution furnaces with up to 96.6 AFUE.  AFUE is Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency.  The number 96.6 means that 96.6% of fuel or energy meant for heating your home is being used for that, while the remaining 3.4% is escaping.  This is a great number, there are some furnaces with only 80 AFUE (which is still a fairly good number).  Are you sold on the Evolution system yet?  Just remember everything else the complete system includes-such as a UV germicidal lamp to help kill germs, bacteria and mold that slip through your filter into your home and also a humidifier and air purifier.

If you are building a new house, or you think it is time for a new heating and cooling system, consider the Bryant Evolution system, not only is it very convenient to be able to control your temperature and humidity all at once, its 7-day programmable thermostats and efficient heating and cooling units can also help to save energy and money!

Energy Efficiency Evaluation

E3, you may have heard of it or read about it!  Here is just another reminder that is a great way to save energy and heating/air conditioning costs-especially as it starts to get colder!

The Energy Efficiency Evaluation will be performed by a trained consultant who will use instruments to help find out where there are leaks from places such as ducts, doors, and windows.  Around 25-40% of heated or cooled air is lost in your duct work alone!  The time is gone where we can afford to lose that much already heated air.

The consultant will then show and explain to you about your problems and have a plan ready to fix it.  However, there is no obligation to actually follow through with it at that time.  (Though it is recommended)  When calling about an E3 appointment-ask if the introductory offer listed on the E3 page of the Flame Furnace website is still available.  There is no better time than now to figure out about your home’s leaks and energy waste areas!

Furnace Won’t Turn On?

Brr! Your furnace won’t turn on, and it is very inconvenient to be walking around your home wrapped in a blanket all the time.  Here are couple of places or things you may want to check if your home isn’t heating up, though you want it to!

  1.  Check the Thermostat-is that on and working properly?  See if you can find the wires that connect it to the furnace, do they seem ok?
  2. If you furnace has a pilot light-is it lit?  If not, light it!  There should be some instructions around your furnace on how to do that.
  3. Check your electrical panel-make sure the breaker for your furnace is on!
  4. Make sure that you have enough power flowing to your furnace

If none of these are the problems or if you cannot figure out how to check some of these things, call Flame Furnace.  Their electricians and technicians will be more than happy to come help you out and figure out how to get your furnace working fast!  Also, feel free to call or post a comment on the blogs if you just have a simple question dealing with your furnace etc…

A Few Small Tips…

Here are a few small tips for winter.  Some will help you save money, some may help to make you more comfortable and some are just logical ideas.

  1.  Though you may not even be thinking about your air conditioner right now, remember to cover it! Especially if the unit is outdoors.  This well help keep falling leaves, sticks and other debris out of it.
  2. INSULATION INSULATION INSULATION!! insulate places in your home like the attic and it can help keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer as well as saving you money!  It helps to keep the outside air from coming in and the inside air from leaving.  Your furnace/air conditioner does not have to work as hard to make up for all the intruding air if your home is properly insulated.
  3. Seal your Ducts! (not seals and ducks).  This also helps save money because it prevents already heated or cooled air from escaping before it makes it to the intended room.  About 20% of air is often lost in the average home’s duct system!
  4. Think about looking into a whole home humidifier instead of a portable one.  Most of the time they come with a humidistat which enables you to control the humidity in a room very easily.  It is much easier than continually refilling all the small ones throughout your home.
  5. Clean your gutters out before it begins to snow

Last but not least, don’t drink your hot chocolate until it has cooled down enough.  Otherwise, your tongue could be burned for days!  Though these tips did not have much in common, I hope that they were helpful.  I hope that maybe they dealt with something that you hadn’t though or hadn’t remembered to do yet.  Keep in mind, if you have any questions-feel free to leave a comment or call Flame Furnace!

There are many different ways to do this.  One way you may not have heard of is radiant heat.  Radiant Heating typically involves heating your floor (though walls or ceilings can also be used) instead of the air in a room. Say Good-bye to the Effects of Dry Winter Air

When your wake up does your throat hurt or feel dry?  This could be a sign of dry air.  This is more common in the winter when your furnace produces dry air for your home.  Dry throats are not the only things affected by dry air.  Dry air could also be a cause of nosebleeds, dry skin, or cracked wood and paint in your home.  One solution to this is to invest in a humidifier. Do not Freeze When You Lose Power in the Winter

You heard an awful a lot about generators this summer.  Summer is when many storms hit causing big power outages that could affect you for weeks!  However, have you thought about losing you power in the winter?  It is still possible from storms or drops in temperature or other factors.

Being prepared is the best route to take when losing your power in the winter.  Though it may be uncomfortable in the summer to go without air conditioning for a while, it is even worse going without heat in the winter.  It could even be dangerous.  Some basic preparations you can make include

  • having lots of water ready
  • having flashlights or other sources of light readily available
  • battery powered alarm clocks
  • wood, if you have a wood burning fire place
  • etc..

An investment that is worth making, is a generator.  There are both portable and stand-by generators.  Portable generators are less expensive, yet they do not power as much as a stand-by generator would.  Stand-by generators are installed right outside of your home, and depending on what kind you get-they can power majority of your home.  An automatic stand-by generator is a great choice for winter.  This is because it will sense the power outage and automatically start running.  This is extremely nice if the outage occurs while you are asleep during the middle of the night.  You may hardly realize that there even was a power outage!  Wouldn’t it be nice to know that your home can pretty much be always powered and full of heat?

Flame Furnace can help you to figure out the right stand-by generator for you  (They do not offer portable generators) and they can install it promptly!

“Hibernating” for Winter

The birds are flying south, and the bears are beginning to hibernate.  All in preparation for the season and temperature to come.  What are you doing?  Though thankfully modern technology has made it so we do not have to store food for winter, we still have have to prepare our homes.  Your furnace is probably one of the most important things in your house during the cold months.  Without it, you will be spending money on lots of blankets upon blankets and sweatshirts.  Here are some things to do to prepare both your home and furnace for winter.

  • If possible, check your roof.  Be on the look out for cracks or loose shingles.  Also, if you have storm doors-make sure that they are in working condition.  They can really help to keep the warm air in your house.  You can fix the squeaky hinges with some WD 40.
  • Replace or clean your furnace filter.  This should also be done frequently throughout the winter.  Your home will be more shut up during the winter than the summer and so any dust particles will continue circulating through your home instead of moving outside.  A clogged or dirty filter makes it harder for the furnace to push out warm air.
  •  One of the most important things to consider doing is to have your furnace inspected.  It should be inspected around every year, and what better time than right before it is going to be used?  Certified technicians will check over your unit and make sure that everything is working properly.  If you must get a new one, a contractor such as Flame can make sure that you have the right type and size of furnace in time for winter.

Other than just these tips, I also recommend making sure you do have enough blankets and hot chocolate around the house.  Though, we do not have to hibernate-we should still make sure that our home and furnace are ready for winter!
