Sometimes when I think of boilers, I think of historical ships or factories that are using them. However, they can be used as a heating system for your home. In fact, this form of heating is incredibly common in Northern Europe. However, the trend is slowly increasing over here in America. Here are some reasons why you might want to think about a boiler for heating your home:
- Boilers do not dry out the inside of your home as much as forced air systems
- Boilers are more economical than a forced air system
- The aluminum fins and baseboard copper pipes necessary for the heating of your home actually take up less room than duct work.
- Because the heat is not going through duct work-it does not really bring allergens, dust, or mold into your living areas
These are just some ideas to keep in mind about boilers, and if you have any questions and if you want to see if a boiler is right for you, be sure and call Flame, and we will give you our best opinion about your home.

Sometimes when you have a problem, reading about a solution isn’t always good enough. It is often much easier to have a professional show you how to do it. I know this is true for me! Still, when you want to set up your new TV or figure out how to put an ink cartridge in your printer, it is not always economical or practical to call a professional to come over and help.

Winter is starting to slow down and warm up a little bit. In fact some summer qualities are even coming early. For example, the other night there were thunderstorm watches in Michigan, a tornado warning in Columbus, Ohio and a tornado even struck in Oklahoma! One precaution you may want to think about before summer begins, and the real storms start, is that you probably need a generator.
These are helpful for both your home and business, and they can save you lots of money if the power goes out, along with making life much more convenient. Also, if you feel that it is too early to start thinking about a generator for the summer, you should know that they are useful in the Winter too. Winter storms and ice can turn the power off in your home, just like a Summer storm can.
Therefore, as you start longing for the days when you can pull the shorts out of the attic, consider looking into a generator right away. By doing so a lengthy power outage will not ruin your summer, and you’ll be good to go for the next seasons ahead, and whatever they may bring.

This past week we have had a couple of warm days, reaching up to 60 degrees! It was a nice break from the bitter cold and the messy snow. If you are like me, this may have caused you to think of Spring, warm weather, Summer and maybe even air conditioning. Yet, don’t forget to have your air conditioner inspected before starting it up again for the summer.
If you are a Gold Plan member with your air conditioning unit, this type of inspection is free. The inspection can help to make sure your unit is working properly, before you try it on a 95 degree day and run the risk that it does not work. It can also help to stop problems before they turn into even bigger problems. So as Spring draws near, remember your air conditioner and the importance of having it inspected.
Also, consider a duct cleaning, because that should be done every few years and it helps to keep your household air cleaner. Call Flame, or go to our website: www.flamefurnace.com, to see about our specials and to set-up an appointment for an inspection.

Are you buying a new house, building a new house, or just in need of a new way to heat your home? Here are some reasons why Geothermal Heat Pumps may be the best answer for you:
- The system can last for a long time because the underground piping often has warranties from 25-50 years and the heat pumps can last around 20 years. Also the system requires little maintenance.
- The U.S. Department of Energy says that Geothermal Heat Pumps use 25-50% less electricity than a regular heating or cooling system. This saves you both money and energy.
- They are environmentally friendly, because they use a renewable resource and have less emissions into the outside air.
- There is no outside unit, and this means they can’t be vandalized nor will they create a loud noise while running.
- Geothermal Heat Pumps are smaller than a typical heating and cooling system and so they will take up less space in your home and that can leave you more room.
- Though the pump system may cost a little extra to install, it is estimated that the savings on your heating/cooling bills will re-pay you within 5 to 10 years.
Flame Furnace has recently begun selling and installing these Geothermal Heat Pumps, for more information about them and how they would work in your home, leave a comment or call Flame. Do you remember learning about the ancient Greeks and Romans and their baths? Well the heat for those baths came from natural hot water and steam that is from a little below the earth’s surface. You too can live like the Greeks with the great geothermal heat pumps that use the same concept with heating your home. Read the rest of this entry »
