Do you know that feeling? When you walk into a movie theatre or restaurant on a 95 degree day? Ahhh…relief. Sometimes air conditioning is the only thing that makes life tolerable on those scorching hot days. However, there are some decisions to make when considering to air condition your home. One being, do you want central air conditioning or a window unit? Here are some facts about both:

Expense:
- Central Air Conditioning Units are initially more expensive than a Window Unit
- However, when using a programmable thermostat-there are much greater savings with the central air conditioner than with a window unit
Space:
- A window unit can only cool 1-2 rooms. This could be great if you have a smaller home or if you know that you do not need cool air in more than those rooms.
- A central air conditioner can be used to cool many rooms
Other Information:
- A central air conditioner will usually use the duct work you already have in your home for your furnace
- Some may say that a central air conditioner is less of an “eye sore”
- Putting a good filter in your duct work of central air conditioner can greatly help a family with allergies
- You should change a central air conditioner filter every month, and a window unit filter every 90 days
- It is very important that both units are sized for your home-so you do not have too little cool air, or too much that ends up being wasted
As we are nearing into fall, air conditioners are probably not on your mind. However, this is a good time to mull over this information to decide for next spring. Also, if you are considering having your furnace replaced-it is more cost efficient to do both a furnace and air conditioner at the same time because it saves time and money. Flame Heating, Cooling and Electrical sells central air conditioning as well as installs them, however they do not sell or install window units. Feel free to contact Flame with any questions! Much of this information was received from: http://www.hvackey.com/central-air-conditioning-vs-wall-units.html and http://epics.ecn.purdue.edu/hfh/sub_websites/web_project/heo/Options/central_vs_window_AC.htm

A little less than two weeks until Labor Day, which of course means that it is almost time for back to school. Amidst the shopping for binders, pencils, crayons etc… You may be thinking about shopping for a furnace. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- If your air conditioner is about the same age as your furnace-it is a good idea to try to replace both. This will save you money in the end, because Flame Heating, Cooling and Electrical (or any other contractor) would only have to come out once which saves both time and money
- Check out the efficiency level on a furnace by looking at the AFUE rating which stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency Level- the AFUE rating will be in a percent form (ex: 70%, 90% etc…) The percentage stands for how much of the energy your furnace is using is actually going towards heating your home. The higher the efficiency level, the less you will pay on your heating bills since less energy is being wasted
- When furnace shopping you want to look for more than just the actual furnaces. You want to find a contractor who has technicians that know what they are doing, right? Ask a contractor if they have NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certified technicians. Flame Furnace offers NATE certified technicians in order to put your unit in properly
If you are ready to shop for a furnace, contact Flame and they can set you up with a comfort consultant who will help you find the right furnace for you!

If you are from the Detroit area, you have probably heard of Jim Harper of WMJC Radio. Flame Heating, Cooling and Electrical was able to perform air conditioner and furnace inspections at his home.
This is further proof that A/C and Furnace Inspections are important and well worth your while! If you are interested in more information about inspections, you can contact Flame, check out the website or read some of these blogs:

Sometimes people are very wary of giving their e-mail addresses to different stores and companies. And for good reason! Who wants their inbox filled with “junk” and all the mass e-mails that often come? I don’t. However, Flame Furnace is going to help get rid of your fear of giving your e-mail address!
When making an appointment with Flame, your e-mail address will be requested and if you give it- an e-mail confirming your appointment will be sent to you. This is great, especially if you are one of those people who often forgets to write things down. This way you have an easy reminder of when “the furnace guy” is coming out. Also, if for some reason something goes wrong and your technician or comfort consultant is late or does not come-you will have real proof of when they were supposed to be there.
There is an even better reason to supply Flame with your e-mail address, you can get discounts! The confirmation e-mail that will be sent to you will have a discount on it that changes every month. You simply have to print out the e-mail and give it to the technician when he comes in order to redeem it.
If you have any more questions about this, you can contact Flame! Though I doubt I took away your fear of giving your e-mail address to every company that asks for it, I hope that this information made you willing to share your address with Flame Heating, Cooling and Electrical!
